Life at NZME

  • I started at NZME in 2016, which was my first job in New Zealand. I worked in the mailroom, picking up parcels and delivering them to all of the floors in the building. It was good fun! Then I joined the technology service desk team, and now I am the Software Quality Assurance Engineer here. My job is to test the quality of the digital applications we build, such as the NZ Herald website, and making sure they are operating well. Our products are great, but it's the people that make things better. People and the environment are the best thing about my job. People at NZME are engaging and they're always there to celebrate your success.

  • I started as a Promo person like a lot of people here, but I always dreamed of being a Sports Reporter. So I joined the Te Rito Journalism Project. It gave people with underrepresented voices in the media to tell their stories and share other peoples stories; so for me that was female sport. There's just endless opportunities, and I'm so grateful to be in a place that wants to see me excel.

  • I am the Search and Social Lead at NZME. I look after social media for the whole publishing side of the business here, primarily the Herald. My career at NZME started 5 and a half years ago and I now lead a team of 6 people. Literally every single day is different. That's a little cliche but in a newsroom its just absolutely so true. So a project that i've been really excited to work on at NZME is called 'What The Actual?!'. We take the biggest news stories of the day and turn them into videos for social media.
