Communications Advisor

THE OPPORTUNITY
NZME is on the hunt for a confident, creative and organised Communications Advisor to help keep our people and audiences informed, engaged and inspired.
This role plays a key part in shaping both internal and external communications across NZME’s audio, publishing and OneRoof brands. Reporting to, and working closely with, the GM of Communications, you’ll support the delivery of publicity plans, internal communications, engagement initiatives, corporate communications and storytelling that reflects who we are.
This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same - from developing internal campaigns, to crafting PR plans, pitching stories to media, supporting talent at media interviews, organising events and writing social media content.
HOW YOU’LL DO IT
Internal Communications
Develop and manage NZME’s internal communications plan and calendar.
Proactively identify and promote company initiatives and activity across NZME.
Own and manage internal communication channels including intranet, screens, posters.
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to support key projects and priorities.
Compile content and draft the CEO’s weekly newsletter and other leadership messaging.
Support senior leader forums and staff engagement events, including talking points, scripts and presentations.
Deliver people-related communications that support culture, performance, reward and recognition, learning, onboarding and engagement.
Plan and lead employee engagement initiatives, events and internal campaigns.
Actively support and promote Diversity & Inclusion initiatives and objectives.
External Communications
Support the GM of Communications to develop and deliver publicity plans across NZME brands.
Build relationships with media to generate positive coverage of NZME’s talent, brands and platforms.
Draft media releases, media pitches and supporting materials as required.
Assist with corporate communications including speech writing, executive messaging and investor relations collateral.
Support communications for key external moments such as industry awards, radio surveys and readership results.
Work with the B2B team to deliver social media content across NZME’s LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.
Support trade communications including customer eDMs and regular customer engagement activity.
ABOUT YOU
You’re a natural storyteller with strong writing skills and the confidence to work with people at every level of the business. You’re organised, proactive and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
You’ll bring:
A tertiary qualification in communications, journalism or a related field (preferred).
2–4 years’ experience in a communications role, ideally spanning internal and external comms or publicity.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong eye for detail.
A creative, innovative approach to storytelling.
Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
Solid social media knowledge and experience.
Excellent time management and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
A continuous improvement mindset and a willingness to suggest better ways of working.
