Visual Journalist
You’ll be a key member of our South Island newsroom, based in Christchurch, working alongside some of the best journalists in the country.
The opportunity:
As a Visual Journalist at The New Zealand Herald, you’ll be at the forefront of storytelling — capturing powerful stills and compelling video that inform, engage and inspire audiences across all NZME platforms.
You’ll be a key member of our South Island newsroom, based in Christchurch, working alongside some of the best journalists in the country to deliver visual journalism that beats the competition. From fast-moving breaking news to sport, politics, local issues, and in-depth features, no two days will look the same.
Key accountabilities:
Capture high-quality photography and video for digital and print platforms
Deliver creative, engaging visual storytelling that brings news to life
Cover a wide range of assignments, including breaking news, sport and features
Operate and maintain camera, sound, lighting and video editing equipment
Work collaboratively with reporters and editors under tight deadlines
About you:
A strong eye for news, storytelling and visual composition
Proven experience in photography and video production
Confident using cameras, audio, lighting and editing systems
Comfortable covering everything from live breaking news to long-form features
Full New Zealand driver’s licence
A genuine passion for visual journalism and news gathering
