Define the sound of ZM. Lead hit music programming, research + imaging to keep NZ’s biggest youth brand ahead of the curve.
Auckland | Full-time
ZM is one of Aotearoa’s most influential youth brands; bold, fast-moving and connected to music culture. We’re looking for a Music Director who lives and breathes hit music and understands the power of great programming.
This is a hands-on role for someone who combines sharp musical instincts with operational excellence, creative flair, and a relentless eye for detail.

Curate, load and transmit daily music logs with precision and consistency.
Lead weekly music research and manage ZM music research projects, turning insights into clear programming decisions.
Shape the ZM playlist, balancing audience data, cultural relevance and instinct.
Brainstorm and develop music features and strategies that keep ZM ahead of the curve.
Build and maintain strong relationships with the NZ music industry, attending showcases and industry events as required.
Co-ordinate artist interviews and music initiatives with labels and on-air teams.
Creative Writing & Imaging
Write compelling station trailers and imaging that bring the ZM brand to life.
Interpret station and client briefs in imaginative, exciting ways.
Write client trailers and sponsor credits, balancing commercial requirements with ZM’s tone and personality.
Maintain a consistent ZM tone of voice, aligned with brand guidelines.
Ensure imaging is fresh, current and regularly updated.
Manage trailer and imaging rotations to keep sound and presentation sharp.
Operational & Technical Support
Provide on-call technical support when required.
Maintain high presentation standards with strong attention to detail.
Provide broader operational support to the ZM team as needed.
Compliance & Culture
Actively comply with all NZME policies and procedures.
Always promote and demonstrate NZME values.
Support a safe, inclusive workplace by following NZME’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing requirements.
About You
Experience & Skills
Experience in music scheduling is essential; PowerGold, Zetta and NexGen experience is highly preferred.
A relevant qualification is helpful but not required — real world experience matters most.
You have a deep understanding of CHR / youth music formats and emerging trends.
Communication & Collaboration
You’re a clear, confident communicator who keeps stakeholders informed and aligned.
You work easily with on-air talent, content teams, labels and commercial partners.
You value collaboration, welcome input, and contribute positively to the wider NZME business.
Mindset & Growth
You take ownership of your learning and actively pursue development opportunities.
You’re adaptable, resilient and comfortable working in a fast changing environment.
You bring energy, curiosity and ambition to everything you do.
Why ZM?
At ZM, music isn’t just what we play, it’s how we connect with audiences, shape culture and lead conversations. This role gives you the opportunity to define the sound of a major national brand, work with passionate creative teams, and influence what New Zealand listens to every day.
If you’re ready to take the ZM playlist to the next level, we’d love to hear from you.
