Herald NOW Business – Senior Producer / Reporter
As the Senior Producer/ Reporter for Herald NOW Business you will play a key role in shaping the next phase of our video strategy by contributing to a video show that is livestreamed to our audiences
THE OPPORTUNITY:
You’ll work under the guidance of the Herald NOW Business Executive Producer and collaborate with the host to create a compelling line-up of live interviews and video content for a 30-minute show, streamed weekday mornings to the NZ Herald site and third-party platforms.
You’ll bring your extensive contacts in business, economics and related sectors, and your knack for identifying engaging interview guests and topics. You’ll be equally as capable of producing interview segments as you will be reporting live in front of the camera.
HOW YOU’LL DO IT:
- Be a collaborative, positive influence, working effectively with a wide range of interviewees.
Be a team player assisting the Executive Producer and Host in overseeing the show’s rundown, ensuring a mix of live and pre-recorded content, and pivoting seamlessly to cover breaking business news.
Shape Herald NOW Business to appeal to a broad audience, with profile interviews, sector news, market analysis, global context and consumer stories.
Add value to business news stories and investigations by securing interviews that provide context, fresh perspectives, and deeper insights into topical issues.
Work with presenters, journalists, editors, studio operators and video producers to deliver the best possible content.
Communicate quickly and effectively during breaking news to ensure fast, accurate coverage.
Contribute to the wider Business Herald and BusinessDesk teams by suggesting new content and angles for further coverage.
Be a proactive, helpful member of the multimedia team, supporting the aims of Herald NOW and the wider video strategy.
Ensure editorial styles and formatting guidelines are followed.
Journalist Skills:
Work directly with the Herald NOW Business Executive Producer on assignments and duties.
Bring a background in business news journalism, ideally with broadcast experience, and a passion for bringing business stories to life in video form.
Pitch ideas, line up interviews and manage all production tasks – research, briefing notes, visuals and logistics – to ensure each segment runs smoothly.
Generate multiplatform content that adds value to the business news agenda and helps other teams extend their reach with complementary video coverage.
Understand the need for a mix of business stories and topics to engage a wide audience.
Ensure introductions and scripts meet editorial standards.
Think creatively about presenting stories on a streaming platform.
Maintain strong contacts in business, economics and markets, and keep up with local, global and political news.
Translate news and current affairs into high-quality live or pre-recorded video content, using your digital, video and social media skills.
ABOUT YOU:
You’ll have a relevant qualification and/or significant experience in senior newsroom roles, with expertise in multi-channel content delivery.
Comfortable in digital and broadcasting environments.
An effective communicator who keeps managers and colleagues informed and relates confidently with people inside and outside the organisation.
A team player who welcomes input, respects others’ views and contributes positively to NZME.
Committed to ongoing learning and personal development, adaptable to change.
