Multimedia Deputy Editor
Help shape multimedia storytelling at the NZ Herald — creating video, audio and images that grow audiences, subscribers and set the national news agenda.
THE OPPORTUNITY
As Multimedia Deputy Editor, you’ll orchestrate NZ Herald’s live multimedia coverage turning breaking developments into compelling, subscriber-winning visually-led stories. You’ll spot opportunities fast, shape creative treatments, and jump on the tools when needed—writing scripts, editing packages, deploying camera crews and lining up interview talent to keep our video news offering sharp.
HOW YOU'LL DO IT
Lead live coverage: Direct editors, reporters, visual journalists and video producers to deliver high-impact visual content tailored for each platform and channel.
Create and innovate: Generate video-led storytelling in digital-first formats that add value to daily news, beating the competition and delighting audiences.
Move at pace: Communicate clearly in breaking situations so our coverage is fast, accurate and consistent, from hard politics and business to lifestyle and entertainment.
Coach and collaborate: Model a positive, collaborative culture—mentoring others across the newsroom to develop their video storytelling abilities.
Champion standards: Uphold NZME’s newsroom mission and code of ethics (Editorial Code of Ethics and Conduct.pdf).
Promote great behaviour: Help maintain professional, respectful workplace conduct aligned with NZME’s policies.

A seasoned newsroom professional (senior-level) with proven multi-platform delivery—comfortable across digital and broadcast environments.
Brilliant communicator who brings out the best in diverse teams and keeps stakeholders updated with clarity and confidence.
Audience-first thinker: You turn analytics and research into decisions that lift engagement, retention and subscriptions.
Organised and adaptable: You prioritise, meet deadlines and flex to shifting rosters in a fast-moving environment.
Editorially rigorous: Strong news judgement, media law literacy, and a commitment to clean, publish-ready content—coaching others to the same high bar.
