THE OPPORTUNITY:
ZM is looking for an experienced broadcaster to join as Assistant Content Director – the strategic partner and second in charge of ZM.

You'll support the Content Director in leading ZM's day-to-day operations while contributing to strategic content decisions that keep us at the forefront of New Zealand's youth media landscape. Whether it be managing daily logs with our Network Content Assistant, working with the Network Promotions Director to perfectly execute promos, coaching on-air talent or driving innovative content initiatives – you'll be instrumental in maintaining ZM's position as the country's leading youth audio brand.
This is a senior role requiring someone who can seamlessly step into the Content Director's shoes when needed, while bringing fresh ideas and operational excellence to everything we do.
YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Supporting the Content Director by leading daily ZM radio operations with full accountability, ensuring daily logs are loaded and transmitted on time with zero operational errors
- Leading regular planning and aircheck sessions with shows and providing strategic guidance and performance development
- Leading imaging and trailer production workflows
- Taking an audience first approach, using analytics, research and GFK data to inform strategic programming and content decisions
- Developing and maintaining senior-level relationships across all NZME divisions
ABOUT YOU:
You’ve got experience in radio with strong leadership capabilities and a deep understanding of what makes great youth content. You thrive in fast-paced environments, love mentoring, and have the strategic thinking to support senior management decision-making.
YOU’LL BRING:
- 7+ years' progressive experience in commercial radio broadcasting, with minimum 3-5 years in senior content/programming roles demonstrating proven leadership track record
- Exceptional communication skills with senior-level presentation skills for interfacing with executives, talent, and external stakeholders
- Ability to make critical decisions under pressure and navigate challenging situations with thoughtful decision-making
- Strong teamwork and supporting leadership capabilities to welcome input, respect others' views and contribute positively
- Commitment to personal growth and development with adaptability in dealing with change and fostering continuous improvement
- Passion for youth culture and understanding of ZM's target audience
- A tertiary qualification in Communications, Media Studies or related field would be desirable.
