THE OPPORTUNITY:
Join NZME's Rotorua Daily Post team as a Local Democracy Reporter, a role supported by RNZ and NZ On Air. You'll play a crucial role in the newsroom ensuring matters, decisions and issues relating to publicly appointed or elected officials or bodies are covered in a timely, accurate and impartial fashion.
HOW YOU'LL DO IT:
You’ll create engaging, timely content for our platforms that upholds our commitment to quality, accuracy, and trustworthiness. You’ll generate unique, compelling story ideas that not only capture the audience’s attention but set us apart from the competition. You’ll bring curiosity, courage, and a clear, authentic voice to everything you write.
ABOUT YOU:
- You'll have a relevant journalism qualification, and be committed to delivering high-impact, authentic, relentlessly interesting journalism.
- You'll have a keen interest in democratic issues, especially at a local level.
- Your attributes and talents will include a dogged pursuit of the truth, and high-quality research and writing skills. As a multimedia journalist you'll also be expected to take photos and video.
- Your journalism will inform and engage audiences locally and nationally thanks to great contact building and a nose for news.
- You'll also have a positive attitude and strong communication skills.
- Relevant newsroom experience would be preferred, but is not essential.

You'll report to the Rotorua Daily Post editor but will receive extra training, mentoring and support from RNZ.
