Ready to shape the stories New Zealanders see, share, and engage with every day?
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Here’s your chance to play a pivotal role in shaping how New Zealanders discover and engage with the stories that matter most. As part of our Social Media team, you’ll deliver compelling, trustworthy content across a range of platforms – helping NZME grow digital audiences, drive subscriptions, and enhance brand engagement.
You’ll identify stories of exceptional interest, craft engaging headlines, captions, and synopses, and publish content that informs, entertains and connects with our communities. HOW YOU’LL DO IT:
You’ll work across multiple channels – including Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, and YouTube – using both native tools and AI-powered publishing systems. Whether you’re managing live social coverage, creating platform-specific content, or supporting other newsroom functions, you’ll work collaboratively and adaptively.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating engaging, high-performing content tailored to each platform based of news articles and videos published by the Herald and our other publications
- Enhancing articles with headlines and captions that drive click-throughs and shares
- Publishing accurate, verified content that aligns with journalistic best practices
- Moderating social media comments in a brand-safe and constructive way
- Using analytics and performance data
- Collaborating with colleagues across the Engagement team, supporting homepage curation, comment moderation, and syndication selection when needed
- Staying across new tools, formats and innovations in digital publishing
ABOUT YOU:
You’re a digitally savvy journalist or content producer who knows how to tell a great story and understands what drives engagement. You bring creativity, pace, and precision to everything you do – with a passion for delivering content that cuts through.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Experience with Photoshop and video-editing tools
- Creative flair and the ability to think outside the box
- Deep familiarity with social platforms and their publishing tools
- A strong editorial eye and understanding of what makes content shareable
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style
- Confidence using social listening tools and data to guide decisions
- Ability to manage time effectively and juggle competing priorities
- A team player attitude – open to feedback, growth, and collaboration
WHAT’S ON OFFER:
In return, we offer the chance to work with the best in the business on award-winning brands and titles in an environment where we foster diversity and inclusion. At NZME our culture is second to none, where innovation and fun is the norm, and you’re encouraged to bring your whole self to work.
Your workplace will be in central Auckland in a modern well-equipped office that boasts radio studios, newsroom hubs, multiple breakout areas and our popular iHeart Lounge that hosts a variety of internal events.
