THE OPPORTUNITY: We’re on the lookout for a Senior Graphic Designer to join our award-winning creative studio on a fixed-term basis, stepping in for our brilliant team member who is heading off on parental leave.
If successful you’ll find yourself based in NZME’s purpose-built CBD HQ, working across a raft of our leading brands such as ZM, Flava, Radio Hauraki, The Alternative Commentary Collective, NZ Herald and also our commercial clients. Your projects will involve design for print, digital, outdoor, experiential, content, radio and video.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
The primary purpose of this role is to develop market leading creative solutions. This role will be required to develop creative strategies, concepts, story boards and mocks as well as the final creative asset production. Working across both client funded (commercial) and internal brand (marketing) requests, this role needs to bring the creative strategy and communication objective to life across all audience touch points, including print and digital platforms. The role is team based and highly collaborative.
HOW YOU’LL DO IT:
Creative:
- Executes a brief from concept to completion across all print and digital platforms
- Can lead and contribute to brainstorms at the conceptual stage of the creative development process
- Proactively communicates with sales and marketing partners to ensure concepts meet client’s expectations
- Demonstrates strong collaboration with internal partners to deliver market leading creative work
- Inspires our customers through your ability to present your work in a confident and clear manner
- Delivers creative requests within the agreed timeframes without compromising quality, accuracy or creativity
- Can supervise photo and video shoots to ensure the creative strategy is delivered in line with client expectations
Innovation:
- Identifies industry trends, insights and best practise examples to inform the future output of the Creative team
- Presents best practise creative examples to inspire innovative thinking within NZME
- Develops innovative ways of presenting our integrated sales solutions, above and beyond PowerPoint
- Takes personal ownership to engage in relevant industry forums to consistently upskill
- Participates in relevant awards programs to showcase NZME’s work within the broader industry
General administration and self-management:
- In conjunction with manager, develops a personal yearly plan, broken down into quarterly and monthly goals.
- Attends and actively participates in all relevant team meetings.
- Demonstrates NZME’s group values and behaviours; ensuring that NZME’s key sales messages are always top of mind: a) Audience First b) Lead Generation c) Leadership and Innovation.
- Always act with integrity, and consistently in line with sound principles and values, demonstrating the ability to build trust and credibility.
- Creative department workflow and file management is always at a best practice standard.
- Active participation in the performance review process and all professional development opportunities completing all paper work or pre-work in a timely manner.
Audience-focus:
- Think audience-first, using analytics and research data to understand and respond to what audiences want, and share this data with the team to increase their understanding.
ABOUT YOU:
Background:
- Proven 5+ years’ experience in a senior design role within an agency, client, media or publishing environment.
- A proactive, detail-minded leader, who thrives in a team environment.
- Proven ability to deliver integrated creative campaigns, either solo or collaboratively. Proven experience in creative file management, naming protocols and server storage. Experience working with multiple stakeholders (internal and external).
- Fully experienced and competent in Adobe Creative Cloud, Google G-Suite, PowerPoint, Microsoft Office and /or equivalent programs. Digital HTML5 experience a must.
Communication: You’ll be an effective communicator and will keep managers and colleagues updated on all necessary information. Relate confidently and appropriately with people inside and outside the organisation.

This is a full time, permanent role, with the minimum hours being 40 per week, normally working between the hours of 8:30am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.
The salary band for this role is $70K.
