As our storytellers, journalists need instincts for what grabs attention. For what’s important, unique & interesting – and how to break and tell those stories in new and innovative ways across multi-media formats. Our journos find stories and produce high-quality journalism and content and we are looking for someone to join the team at The Northern Advocate.

If you fit the bill for this role you’ll display at least 4 years’ experience working in a major news environment in a reporting and editorial role. You’ll have covered a wide range of topics, displaying great news judgement and an ability to handle daily story assignments, breaking news events and longer features. You’re original in your reporting skills and thought, including developing and maintaining sources and extending news coverage in new ways.

Using social media as a news gathering tool comes as second nature to you; creating engaging live multi-platform social content on the fly, along with real time imagery, is where you thrive. You’re a multitasker, balancing priorities, projects and tasks with ease. You’re super organised and not worried by changing priorities. You are also a natural communicator, adjusting to changing environments and situations – and all with a ready smile and positive outlook.

In return we offer the chance to work with the best in the business - award winning brands and titles in an environment fostering diversity and inclusion.

Have you got the instincts to become our next big storyteller? Apply now telling us your story via CV and cover letter.

Applicants must be New Zealand residents or have a valid work permit.

Or, know someone who would be a perfect fit? Let them know!
