Are you a passionate reporter looking for a new challenge in public interest journalism in one of New Zealand’s lifestyle capitals?

The Rotorua Daily Post, with the support of RNZ, the Newspaper Publishers’ Association and NZ On Air, is hiring an experienced journalist to take part in the Local Democracy Reporting (LDR) service.

This pilot project will place eight reporters in regional newsrooms to cover local councils, DHBs, community trusts and similar organisations. You will report to your newsroom’s editor, but your work will also be made available to RNZ and other local and national media partners.

This is a fixed-term role at intermediate to senior level with access to multi-media training.

We’re looking for someone who meets these criteria:

  • At least two years’ experience in daily news journalism
  • Able to meet the highest standards of accuracy, fairness and balance
  • Able to work effectively under deadline pressure

Being able to speak some te reo Māori – or being willing to learn – would also be an advantage.

You’ll be working in a fast-paced and friendly newsroom in a region that offers affordable living and a fantastic lifestyle of outdoor pursuits, lakes, nearby beaches and ski fields.

Job-sharing and flexible working arrangements may be considered in some circumstances.

NZME will endeavour to retain the services of the reporter beyond the pilot project, subject to performance and circumstances such as their willingness to relocate should that be required.

Applications close 5pm Sunday 6th October.
